Jourdin Reece Professor Hodges Intro to Philosophy 22 July 2016 In the United States of America, we have laws and regulations allowing us or not allowing us to partake in certain actions. Justice by definition is the process or results of using laws to fairly judge ones just or unjust actions and behavior. The United States of America has a justice system that primarily focuses on the structure of our societies and how rights and duties are distributed equality to all citizens in order to gain full cooperation. Many things are considered to be just or unjust. Examples of these are decision making, laws, our social systems, judgements, and imputations. Everyone has to have a fair and equal chance to progress in this country. All citizens†¦show more content†¦According to theorist Hobbes, there has to be a developed sovereign state in order to have legal justice in a community. For example, The United States Judges ultimately make the final decision regarding what they think is justice. A judge can overturn any verdict they feel is not su itable for the defendant and give them a sentencing they feel is fair justice based on their actions and age. In the United States judges have a controlled government in which boundaries have to be followed when it comes to setting a justifiable sentence. The penalty for stealing an item from a store in the United States is very much different then stealing something in Somalia. For example, in Somalia if a person steals something the authorities are allowed to cut off your hands or feet as a form of a justifiable punishment. In the United States we are not allowed to do such a thing, instead the Judge will either sentence the defendant to a certain amount of time in jail or he/she will be put on probation depending on the item stolen. Justice is relative to each society because we all have been raised different based on the culture and beliefs we follow. What is fair in the United States may not be fair to those in Iraq. It all depends on what we have been taught to believe. Justice is giving each person what he or she deserves when a just or unjust act in committed.
